Djuka Electrics installing MCS-certified solar panels on a Midlands rooftop

Tamworth's post-war housing stock is some of the best roofing real estate for solar in the Midlands. The B77 and B79 estates are packed with consistent south-facing pitched roofs, often unshaded and well-suited to a full array of high-efficiency Tier 1 panels. Whether you own a semi on one of the town's larger overspill estates or a commercial unit near the retail parks off the A5, the conditions here are genuinely good for solar generation.

We are a NAPIT-registered electrical business and MCS-certified solar installer based in Redditch, around 50 minutes from Tamworth via the M42. That means we handle the full job in-house: roof survey, structural assessment, electrical design, installation, DNO notification, and commissioning. Nothing is subcontracted. You get one point of contact from free quote to sign-off.

What's included

Every Tamworth job includes.

A thorough pre-installation roof and electrical survey, covering pitch angle, orientation, shading, and your consumer unit, so we design the right system for your property before anything is ordered.

Supply and installation of Tier 1 high-efficiency solar panels carrying a 25-year product and performance warranty, mounted on a fully engineered railing system rated for UK wind-load conditions.

A fully compliant inverter installation, wired into your consumer unit by our NAPIT-registered electricians, with all cable runs concealed where practically possible.

DNO (Distribution Network Operator) application and grid-connection notification handled by us, including all paperwork required for your MCS certificate and for any export tariff registration.

Full system commissioning and live performance check on the day, with a walk-through of your monitoring app or display so you understand what your system is producing from the moment we leave.

Before and after photographs of the roof and electrical installation, plus a copy of your MCS certificate and all warranty documentation, handed over before we pack up the van.

Local knowledge

Solar Panel Installation in Tamworth.

Tamworth grew rapidly from the 1960s onwards as Birmingham's housing pressure pushed large planned estates outward along the A5 corridor. The result is a town where a high proportion of properties share very similar roof geometry: semi-detached and terraced houses with 30 to 45-degree pitched roofs, most of them tiled in concrete or clay, and a large number facing within a useful arc of south. That uniformity is a genuine advantage when planning a solar installation, because the structural loads, tile-fixing methods, and array layouts are well understood. Scaffold access on these estates is usually straightforward, and most jobs can be completed in a single day.

The town's newer build areas, particularly around the edges of the B77 and B78 postcodes, include more recent housing with interlocking concrete tiles and some with in-roof or integrated panel options available. A smaller number of older properties closer to Tamworth's historic centre have Welsh slate or plain clay tiles, which require more careful bracket selection to avoid cracking. We carry a range of fixing systems to handle both modern and period roof materials, and we will confirm the correct system during the survey rather than making assumptions from a postcode alone. Conservation designations in the older parts of the town are worth checking before installation, though the majority of Tamworth's residential stock falls outside any Article 4 direction that would restrict permitted development rights for solar.

Tamworth also has significant commercial roof space, particularly around the retail and industrial zones off the A5 and Ventura Park. Flat and low-pitch commercial roofs suit ballasted or mechanically fixed portrait arrays, and the town's strong retail and light-industrial base means many business owners here are well-placed to benefit from on-site generation at scale. We offer full commercial solar design and installation as a separate service, and the same free-survey, written-quote approach applies.

Why Tamworth

Why Tamworth chooses us.

Tamworth customers choose us because we are MCS-certified, handle everything in-house, and give you a written quote with no surprises on the day.

1

MCS certification is the scheme standard required for Smart Export Guarantee eligibility and most solar finance products. Every installation we complete is registered under our MCS licence, and you receive your certificate before we leave site.

2

We are NAPIT-registered electricians as well as solar installers, so the grid-connection work is carried out by our own qualified engineers rather than being handed to a third-party spark. That matters for the quality of the consumer-unit work and for your electrical installation certificate.

3

Every quote is free, written, and itemised after a proper roof and electrical survey. There are no hidden costs added on the day, no variation orders for scaffold or DNO fees, and no pressure to sign on the spot.

4

We are based in Redditch and cover Tamworth regularly via the M42 and A5. We know the roof types on the local estates and we carry fixing systems for both modern concrete tiles and older clay or slate, so the survey is a real assessment rather than a formality.

5

All installations are backed by an IWA insurance-backed guarantee, which means your workmanship warranty is protected independently of us as a business. That protection sits alongside the 25-year panel and inverter warranties from the manufacturers.

How it works

From enquiry to job done.

  1. 01
    Postcode check

Tell us your postcode and we confirm we cover your area. Tamworth's B77, B78, and B79 postcodes are all within our regular coverage from Redditch via the M42. Takes two minutes by phone or the website form.

  2. 02
    Free roof survey

We visit the property, inspect the roof structure, measure the array area, check orientation and shading, and assess your consumer unit. No charge, no obligation. We take photos so we can finalise the design back at base.

  3. 03
    Written quote issued

You receive a full written, itemised quote covering panels, inverter, mounting system, electrical work, scaffold if needed, DNO notification, and MCS registration. No hidden lines, no vague 'additional charges may apply' wording.

  4. 04
    Date booked

If you are happy with the quote, we agree an installation date that suits you. We give you a realistic schedule for the day and confirm what access and parking we will need, particularly relevant on Tamworth's busier estate roads.

  5. 05
    Installation and handover

We complete the full installation, commission the system, walk you through the monitoring, and photograph the finished work. Your MCS certificate and all warranty documents are with you before we leave. Before and after photos are included as standard.

Worth knowing

Before you book in Tamworth.

Tamworth has a mix of concrete interlocking tiles on post-war stock and older clay or slate on properties nearer the town centre. The tile type determines the fixing bracket used, and some slate roofs need individual tile lifts rather than hook bolts. Confirm your roof material before booking so the right kit is on the van.

Most residential solar in Tamworth qualifies as permitted development, but properties within any conservation area or subject to an Article 4 direction may need prior approval from Staffordshire Moorlands or Lichfield District. Check your property's status with the local planning authority before signing off a design.

Export tariff registration under the Smart Export Guarantee requires your installer to hold a valid MCS certificate and your panels to be MCS-certified products. We handle the MCS paperwork as part of every installation, but you will need to apply separately to your energy supplier to activate export payments after commissioning.

FAQs

Tamworth questions.

How long does a solar panel installation take in Tamworth?

Most residential installations on Tamworth's estate housing take one full day on site. That covers scaffold setup if needed, panel and rail installation, inverter wiring, consumer-unit connection, and commissioning. Larger systems on bigger roofs, or jobs that include battery storage, may run to a second day. We confirm the likely duration in your written quote so you can plan accordingly. Commercial installations on flat or larger roofs typically require a more detailed programme, which we set out at the survey stage.

Will my roof handle solar panels? I have an older house in Tamworth.

Most of Tamworth's post-war housing stock, including the semis and terraces built across the B77 and B78 estates from the 1960s onwards, has roof structures that handle solar panels without modification. We carry out a structural check at the survey stage, looking at rafter spacing, roof condition, and existing load. For older properties closer to the town centre with clay tiles or slate, we select the appropriate bracket system to avoid cracking. We will not proceed with an installation if the roof is not suitable, and we will tell you plainly at the survey if any remedial work is needed first.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels in Tamworth?

In most cases, no. Solar panels on a domestic roof qualify as permitted development under national planning rules, which means no application is needed. The exceptions are properties in a conservation area where the panels would be visible from a public road, listed buildings, and properties subject to an Article 4 direction that removes permitted development rights. Tamworth has some conservation designation around its older centre. We check the position at the survey stage and flag any planning requirement before you commit to the installation. If prior approval is needed, we can advise on the process.

What happens after the panels are installed in terms of export payments?

Once your system is commissioned and you hold your MCS certificate, you can apply to your energy supplier for Smart Export Guarantee payments. SEG pays you a rate per kilowatt-hour for surplus electricity you export to the grid. The application is made directly to your energy supplier; different suppliers offer different rates, so it is worth comparing before registering. We provide all the MCS documentation you need to support your application as part of the handover pack. We do not register on your behalf, but we make sure you have everything required to do it yourself quickly.

Can you install solar on a commercial building in Tamworth?

Yes. We offer full commercial solar design and installation, and Tamworth has a strong base of retail and light-industrial premises with suitable roof space, particularly around the A5 corridor and the Ventura Park area. Commercial systems involve a more detailed initial survey covering roof loading, electrical supply capacity, and any landlord or planning requirements, but the free-quote approach is the same. Larger commercial systems may involve three-phase inverter configurations and more complex DNO applications, all of which we handle in-house as NAPIT-registered engineers.

Is battery storage worth adding at the same time as solar in Tamworth?

For most households in Tamworth, the answer is yes, particularly if the bulk of your electricity consumption happens in the evening after the panels have stopped generating. Adding a battery at the same time as the solar installation is more efficient than retrofitting later, because the wiring and inverter configuration can be designed for storage from the outset. A combined solar and battery system also simplifies MCS registration. We survey and quote for battery storage alongside solar as a matter of course, so you can make an informed decision without committing to both at the enquiry stage.

Our commitment

We keep our installation diary to a manageable number of jobs each week. That is not a scheduling constraint we apologise for; it is how we make sure every roof gets the attention it needs. A solar installation is a 25-year commitment for you and for the panels. We would rather do fewer jobs properly than rush a loft-full of wiring to hit a volume target. Every Tamworth customer gets a lead engineer on site, not a trainee with a checklist.
