Djuka Electrics carrying out domestic electrical work

Rugby has a wide mix of property types, from Victorian and Edwardian terraces close to the town centre to post-war semis, 1970s estates, and newer builds spreading out towards Hillmorton and Brownsover. Each era brings its own electrical quirks, and getting them sorted properly matters whether you are a homeowner, landlord, or small business owner.

We are Djuka Electrics, based in Redditch and covering Rugby as part of our regular East Warwickshire patch. We carry out full and partial rewires, consumer-unit upgrades, fault-finding, EICR landlord certificates, additional sockets and lighting circuits, and more. Every job is carried out by a NAPIT-registered electrician, fully insured, and priced with a free written quote before any work starts. We do not cut corners to be the cheapest; we do the job properly the first time.

What's included

Every Rugby job includes.

A full walk-around and visual inspection of your existing installation before any work begins, so we agree the exact scope with you and nothing comes as a surprise on the day.

Complete consumer-unit (fuse box) replacement using a compliant metal-clad unit with RCD and RCBO protection, installed to the current edition of BS 7671 and notified to your local building control.

Full or partial rewire carried out in phases where possible, keeping disruption to a minimum and the property liveable throughout the works wherever the layout allows.

Fault-finding and diagnostic testing using calibrated instruments, covering tripping circuits, dead sockets, flickering lights, and intermittent faults that other electricians have struggled to trace.

Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for landlords and homeowners, with a clear written schedule of any remedial work required, so you have the paperwork you need for lettings compliance or a property sale.

Additional socket and lighting circuits, USB sockets, outdoor weatherproof sockets, and loft or garage power supplies, all installed with full notification and certification where required.

Local knowledge

Electrician in Rugby.

Rugby sits in the eastern edge of Warwickshire, with Coventry about twelve miles to the north-west and Leamington Spa roughly ten miles to the south-west. That geography matters because the town grew in several distinct waves. The streets closest to Rugby station and the town centre contain a good number of Victorian and Edwardian properties, many of which have never been fully rewired. Original rubber or early PVC wiring, old round-pin sockets, and ceramic fuse boards are still present in a number of these homes. If your property dates from before the 1970s and has not been rewired in the last thirty years, an EICR will almost certainly flag items that need attention.

The interwar and post-war suburbs, including areas like Hillmorton to the south-east, contain large numbers of 1930s to 1960s semis. These properties often have consumer units that pre-date modern RCD requirements, meaning a single fault can cut power to the whole house rather than a single circuit. Upgrading to a modern split-load or fully RCBO-protected consumer unit is one of the most common jobs we carry out in Rugby, and it makes a practical difference to daily life as well as satisfying landlord and mortgage-lender requirements.

Newer developments on the edges of Rugby, such as those around Brownsover and the expanding estates to the north of the town, tend to have modern wiring but sometimes lack the number of circuits and sockets that today's households need. Adding dedicated circuits for home offices, electric vehicle chargers, or outdoor power is straightforward in these properties and does not require a full rewire. Rugby Borough Council's planning and building control team handles notification for notifiable electrical work, so all our qualifying jobs are properly registered and you receive the relevant certificates upon completion.

Why Rugby

Why Rugby chooses us.

Rugby homeowners and landlords come back to us because we turn up when we say we will, do the work properly, and leave you with the paperwork you actually need.

1

We are NAPIT-registered, which means our electrical work is independently assessed and all notifiable jobs are properly certified. You receive the relevant certificates and building control notification as a matter of course, not as an optional extra.

2

Every quote is free, written, and itemised. We survey the job before pricing it, so the figure we give you reflects what the work actually involves. There are no hidden costs and no surprises on the final invoice.

3

We are fully insured for domestic electrical work, so you and your property are covered before we touch a single cable. We are happy to confirm the details of our cover in writing if your mortgage lender or letting agent requires it.

4

Our fault-finding service uses calibrated test instruments rather than guesswork. When other electricians have failed to trace an intermittent fault, we take a methodical approach that gets to the root cause rather than replacing parts until something works.

5

We cover Rugby as a regular part of our East Warwickshire schedule, so we are not travelling from the other side of the Midlands. That means we can offer realistic timescales and follow up if further work is needed without a long delay.

How it works

From enquiry to job done.

  1. 01
    Postcode check

Give us your Rugby postcode and we confirm coverage straight away. Rugby sits well within our East Warwickshire patch, so availability is rarely an issue. We will tell you honestly if a particular date works for us.

  2. 02
    Free survey

We visit the property, look at the existing installation, and talk through what you need. This is a proper technical survey, not a five-minute chat. We check the consumer unit, wiring condition, circuit load, and any specific requirements you have raised.

  3. 03
    Quote within 24 hours

After the survey we send a written, itemised quote by email. Every line of work is listed separately so you can see exactly what you are paying for. There are no hidden costs and no allowances that quietly expand later.

  4. 04
    Date booked

Once you accept the quote we fix a start date that suits you. We give you a realistic time window and contact you the day before to confirm. We do not keep you waiting all day.

  5. 05
    Job done, photos sent

We complete the work to BS 7671, test and certify every circuit, and send you before-and-after photos along with all completion certificates and building control notifications by email, usually the same day.

Worth knowing

Before you book in Rugby.

Many older Rugby properties still have aluminium wiring or early PVC insulation that becomes brittle with age. Before booking any partial rewire or consumer-unit upgrade, it is worth checking the age of your existing installation so we can advise whether a full rewire makes more sense than a piecemeal repair.

Landlords letting property in Rugby must hold a valid EICR no older than five years, or produced at each change of tenancy. If your certificate is approaching expiry or a new tenant is moving in, book the inspection with enough lead time so any remedial work can be completed before the deadline.

Some Rugby properties, particularly those in or near the conservation areas around the town centre, may have additional considerations for cable routes and external works. Always check with Rugby Borough Council if you are unsure whether permitted development rules apply to any external electrical installation.

FAQs

Rugby questions.

How long does a full house rewire take in Rugby?

The timescale depends on the size of the property and how much access is available. A typical three-bedroom semi in Rugby takes between three and five working days. We plan the work in phases where possible so the property remains liveable throughout. We will give you a realistic programme as part of the free survey, not a vague estimate that shifts once we start. All circuits are tested and certified before we leave, and you receive the completion documentation the same day.

What does an EICR involve and how long does it take in Rugby?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a thorough inspection and test of your fixed wiring, consumer unit, and earthing arrangements. For a typical Rugby home it takes between two and four hours depending on the size of the property and the age of the installation. We check every circuit, test insulation resistance and earth continuity, and issue a written report categorising any observations. If remedial work is needed, we provide a separate itemised quote. There is no obligation to use us for the remedial work, although most customers do.

My fuse board keeps tripping. Can you find the fault?

Yes. Persistent tripping is one of the most common calls we receive from Rugby homeowners. The cause can be anything from a failing appliance to deteriorating cable insulation, a wiring fault introduced during building work, or simply a circuit that is overloaded. We use calibrated instruments to isolate the fault systematically rather than guessing. In most cases we can trace and resolve the problem in a single visit. We will give you a clear explanation of what caused the fault and what we have done to fix it.

Do I need building control notification for electrical work in Rugby?

Certain types of electrical work are classed as notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations. Consumer-unit replacements and new circuits in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoors are the most common examples. As NAPIT-registered electricians we are authorised to self-certify this work, which means we notify building control on your behalf and you receive the relevant certificate automatically. You do not need to apply to Rugby Borough Council yourself. Non-notifiable work such as like-for-like socket replacements does not require notification.

Can you upgrade the consumer unit in a rented property in Rugby?

Yes, and it is often necessary to bring a landlord's EICR up to a satisfactory standard. We work with Rugby landlords regularly and understand the documentation requirements. Any consumer-unit upgrade is self-certified and registered with building control, so you have the paperwork your letting agent or local authority may ask for. We can also carry out the EICR itself and any remedial work in a single programme, reducing the number of visits to the property and the disruption to your tenants.

Can you add more sockets or a home-office circuit to my Rugby house?

Yes. Adding circuits for home offices, outbuildings, outdoor sockets, or dedicated appliances is one of the most straightforward jobs we carry out. We assess the existing consumer unit to confirm there is capacity, route the cables as neatly as possible, and certify the new circuits on completion. If the consumer unit is already at capacity or is an older type that is not suitable for extension, we will tell you at the survey stage and include a unit upgrade in the quote if needed. All pricing is provided free and in writing before any work begins.

Our commitment

We take on a controlled number of electrical jobs each week so that every one gets the attention it deserves. Domestic electrical work does not benefit from being rushed. Taking the time to test properly, route cables neatly, and check the whole installation before we leave is what separates a safe, lasting job from one that causes problems later. If our schedule is full when you call, we will tell you honestly and give you a realistic wait time.

Who we are

We are Djuka Electrics, NAPIT-registered electricians based in Beoley, Redditch. We cover Rugby and the wider East Warwickshire area as a regular part of our schedule. Every job is photographed, certified, and backed by our commitment to doing the work properly. Our reviews come from real customers across Worcestershire, Warwickshire, and the West Midlands, and we are happy to share them on request.
